Anthropic Is Negotiating a Second $45B Bet on Nscale

Image
Anthropic — the AI lab whose own investors argued last week that its November IPO should be priced a quarter cheaper than planned — is negotiating to spend another $45 billion on cloud computing. With the same obscure London company it already handed $45 billion to in August. Bloomberg reported on Monday that Nscale, the Nvidia-backed " neocloud " that filed for a New York IPO last month, is in talks to sell Anthropic a second block of capacity at its Monarch data centre campus in West Virginia: a second building delivering 460 megawatts of computing power on Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin AI chips. Anthropic also holds the right of first refusal on the campus's expected third building. Neither company commented, and Reuters, which carried the report, said it could not independently verify it. The talks are ongoing, and details could change. Photo: A corridor of server racks inside a modern data centre (illustrative — not Nscale's Monarch campus). C...

Microsoft Walks Away From UK's Biggest AI Data Centre

Update, Oct. 20: Microsoft finally breaks its silence Since this article was published, Microsoft has finally spoken. A spokesperson told Reuters on Monday: 'This decision relates to a single site,' while reiterating the company 'remained committed to its partnership with Nscale, including work to build digital infrastructure and support AI growth globally.' Nscale answered in kind: 'Our relationship with Microsoft remains strong and long-term, and this unfortunate London-wide grid issue has no impact on our other contracts,' adding it is exploring alternative power sources for Loughton plus other UK expansion sites. The Times added the scale context the headlines miss: Loughton is understood to make up a small proportion of Nscale's overall $103bn in contracted revenues with Microsoft, which span projects in Portugal, the US and Norway — though the Norway site is also behind schedule. And the structural fix may be coming: PropertyWeek reports Ofgem has tas...

By TechPulse USA Newsroom · October 18, 2026 There is a particular kind of silence that descends on a company when its biggest customer walks out mid-pitch. No press release. No "strategic realignment." Just a terminated agreement, reported on a Sunday morning, while both parties decline to pick up the phone. That is where Nscale woke up today. Microsoft — one of the British neocloud's two largest customers, and the anchor tenant earmarked for its first UK data centre — has pulled out of the Loughton, Essex deal, according to the Telegraph, as reported by Reuters this morning. The paper did not say why. Neither company would comment. And Nscale is supposed to be launching a $3bn IPO within weeks. Let that sink in: the customer underpinning your float just cancelled. The anchor tenant just left the building The bare facts, as Reuters carried them at 10:55 UTC: Microsoft "recently terminated its agreement" for the Loughton data centre. The Telegraph, w...
