Wall Street Gave Anthropic $63B for Chips It Won't Own

Image
Wall Street has just agreed to buy $63 billion worth of somebody else's computer chips, lease them to a company that is losing money on paper at a spectacular rate, and let the chipmaker itself promise the lenders they will be fine. If that sentence sounds like it cannot possibly describe a real, signed financing, welcome to the AI buildout in October 2026 — where the numbers have got so large that the only thing stranger than the deal is how routine it now feels. On Monday, October 26, Bank of America, Blackstone, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley announced $63 billion in financing to buy Broadcom's AI accelerators and networking equipment for Anthropic, the company behind Claude. The money does not go to Anthropic. It goes to a newly formed special-purpose vehicle — a company created for this deal and nothing else — which will buy the hardware and lease it to Anthropic, with deliveries expected to begin in 2027 under a previously announced compute-capacity agreement with Broadco...

LSEG's $3.5B Octus Buy: Data the AI Chatbots Can't Scrape

Eleven-point-eight times revenue. That is the multiple the London Stock Exchange Group has just agreed to pay for a company whose crown jewels are loan documents you will never be allowed to see. On Thursday, LSEG announced it will buy Octus — the credit-intelligence firm that started life as Reorg — from private-equity owner Permira for $3.535 billion in cash, its biggest acquisition since the $27 billion Refinitiv deal in 2019. And the stated logic is blunt: this is data that AI cannot scrape. The timing is no accident. LSEG's share price has been ground down by roughly 28 per cent from its February 2025 peak on a single fear: that artificial intelligence will commoditise the financial-data business that now drives almost half the group's revenue. Activist investor Elliott disclosed a stake in February and has been pushing for portfolio changes. So chief executive David Schwimmer has answered the AI question with his chequebook — by buying the one kind of financial data t...

Blackstone's Jas Khaira: AI Debt Fears Are 'Overblown'

Blackstone Dismisses the AI Debt Scare It Helped Inflate By Daniel Rao | October 22, 2026 There is a certain audacity in being the arsonist who shows up with a fire hose and then complains the neighbourhood is overreacting to the smoke. On a stage at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco this week, Jas Khaira — Blackstone's new head of AI, the man who packed up in New York and moved west to run the firm's San Francisco AI hub — looked out at an industry spooked by 15% bond yields and pulled IPOs and declared the whole panic essentially overblown. The debt financing the AI buildout, he argued, is not the shaky paper of 2008. It is backed by "the most creditworthy companies in the world." Calm down, everyone. The problem with this reassurance is not that it is wrong. The problem is who is delivering it: Blackstone, with about $1.3 trillion in assets under management, is quite possibly the single largest private creditor to the very data-centre boom everyone is pani...
